Description

The building’s foundation is frost depth and constructed of large stones around the perimeter of the building. There are brick piers supporting columns at the center of the building. The rubble stone foundation transitions to smaller rusticated stones above grade. The crawl space below the building ranges from 2’ – 4’ in height and has an exposed dirt floor. Moisture from the dirt floor is migrating up through the building.

If left unaddressed, this could lead to water damage and humidity threatening the wood and the rest of the historic structure.

It has been recommended that the basement floor be lined with a heavy vapor retarding material that is extended up the inside of the foundation walls and attached to the wood will around the perimeter.

To preserve this landmark for future generations, we need your help to fund a critical project: wrapping the basement to safeguard it against further damage at a cost of $50,000. We need to raise $35,000 to make this happen!

Your support will help us ensure the Maine State Building continues to stand as a testament to Maine’s rich history and craftsmanship. We are incredibly grateful for people like you, who support our mission to preserve, protect and maintain the Maine State Building and All Souls Chapel.

If you are donating in memory or in honor of someone, please include a note in the order page. We would be honored to recognize your tribute as part of our ongoing preservation efforts.
