Bequest

A bequest made through ones will or trust is the simplest and most common way to make a legacy gift to the Poland Spring Preservation Society. You may specify that PSPS is to receive a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular piece of property.

You may also specify the purpose of your contribution. Would you like to support our maintenance projects, or would you prefer to leave your bequest to PSPS to wherever the need is greatest? We suggest the latter option as the society’s needs may change over time and this provides our board with maximum flexibility in the use of your bequest.

Suggested language for your will:

“I give and bequeath to the Poland Spring Preservation Society, a Maine nonprofit organization, P.O. Box 444 Poland Spring, Maine 04274, the sum of $______ (or specific described property such as proceeds from a life insurance policy) to be used wherever the need is greatest as determined by the board of directors for the specific purpose of (endowment, education, maintenance project, etc).

Life Insurance & IRAs

Designating PSPS as a beneficiary of your life insurance, 401k, 403b, or other retirement plan can greatly reduce your taxable estate and save thousands of dollars in estate taxes while providing a great donation. In addition to tax savings, gifting life insurance is easy. All you have to do is notify your plan administrator that you wish for PSPS to receive all or a portion of your fund.

Have a life insurance policy you no longer need? You may be able to gift whole life insurance policies now to PSPS now to PSPS to help fund critical projects and enjoy a tax advantage.

IRA Rollover: If you are 70 1/2 years old or older, you may be able to transfer your IRA to PSPS. You won’t pay withdrawal penalties and you may qualify for an immediate tax reduction.
