Poland Spring has been a destination since 1794, when George Washington was president. Our historical roots extend throughout the 19th century when a great deal of modern twists were added to the property including a golf course, a building which had been moved from Chicago and of course the bottling of Poland Spring Water.

There are five separate buildings on the property, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Maine State Building (1974), All Souls Chapel (1977), the former Poland Spring Bottling Facility and Spring House (1984) and the Poland Spring Beach House (1999). 

On August 13, 2013, much of the property including the golf course was listed as a historic district. There are only a half dozen historic districts within Androscoggin County and less than three dozen golf-related properties on the nearly 89,000 listings within the United States. Our signage program has been setup to showcase the major historical sites on the property including a couple of buildings that were destroyed by fire several decades ago. Other sites, although without signs, have been indicated on the walking map (available onsite) to give a better understanding as to how the property was used during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Online and onsite information are consistent with one another but the online account tends to be longer and more in-dept.
