Work Continues at the Maine State Building

September 26, 2025 The asbestos removal in the basement of the Maine State Building is now complete.

September 1, 2025 PSPS receives $10,000 in anonymous donations to help complete the basement work at the Maine State Building.

June 24, 2025 PSPS receives a $20,000 grant from the Davis Family Foundation to support the Maine State Building Basement Work project. The Maine State Building basement is in need of asbestos removal, and then the basement must be wrapped in vapor retarding material to prevent the further spread of moisture to the building. This two part project is expected to begin in September of 2025.

April 30, 2025 PSPS receives a $3,000 grant from Maine Preservation and the 1772 Foundation for window repair at the Maine State Building.

September 28, 2024 PSPS receives a $200,000 donation from Poland Spring Water.

This donation is to support the matching grant from the National Parks Service received earlier in September.

September 16, 2024 PSPS receives $278,000 from National Parks Service:

The Poland Spring Preservation Society is pleased to announce the acceptance of their grant application for $278,000 to restore the historic Maine State Building roof. The project was previously announced by US Senator as one of 180 projects throughout Maine within the Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriation bills. The project is funded in part by the Save America’s Treasures grant program, through the Historic Preservation Fund, as administered by the National Park Service, Department of Interior. This is a 1:1 matching grant. Additional support for this extensive project has been solicited from multiple foundations and private individuals including the Maine Community Foundation, Maine Historic Preservation Commission, and BlueTriton Brands, Inc. The project is expected to conclude in 2026.

May 20, 2024 The Maine State Building Receives a $10,000 Grant from the Maine Community Foundation to assist with the slate roof replacement project.

May 17, 2024 The Maine State Building Receives A $20,000 Preservation Grant

The Maine Historic Preservation Commission announced that the Maine State Building received a $20,000 grant to draft plans and specifications for the repair of the historic slate roof at the State of Maine Building.

The funds from the Maine Historic Preservation Commission will aid in a building assessment report completed by The Harriman Company in March of 2024. The Maine State Building Restoration is a multi phased project, beginning with the slate roof.

The Maine State Building Roof Report is being supported in part by the Historic Preservation Fund administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior and the Maine Historic Preservation Commission.
